I leave home on a lovely sunny morning, wave goodbye to Leon (my Grandson) and turn into Chetton Avenue A walk through the centre of Daimler Green Housing Estate, where once thousands were employed making these famous cars. See the roof timbers of George Wimpey's last dwellinghouse construction on this road - opposite which I turn left and face Chelmarsh Wher you can see Wimpey still building in the background, and the piece of ground on the right, proposed for construction of a hostel for the WMCA. This is the subject of a planning appeal which is causing upset among the local residents Daimler Road is on the left. Turn right and see the old factory fire station, where the gatehouse used to be. In front of us is the junction of Sandy Lane & Lydgate Road, with the park in the background. Also in front of us is one of the few "corner shops" which has not been put out of business by Sainsburys and the like. At the top of the hill is what used to be the East Midlands Eletricity Board head office, before they were taken over by Powergen, a "new style" privatised company ... which make you realise just what a good outfit the old EMEB were. From Sandy Lane, walk down St Nicholas street, past Drapers Fields, over the ring road to where we are here, with a lovely view of 2 of the 3 spires, Alders (Owen Owen) in the distance and the Post Office on the immediate left
