Quite simply, in my
opinion, the best female singer that has walked this planet. She could also
write beautiful and meaningful songs although, sadly, her best writing was
when her personal life was at its lowest ebb.
It has been said to me that my description of her, somewhere else on this site, as a "blues-singer" was incorrect. Probably true but, like all of the great blues singers she had Soul, and like Muddy Waters and Miles Davis she is one of the great, unique, unmistakable artistes of the 20th century.
I am sorry to ramble on in superlatives but that's the way that Laura grabs me, or grabbed me until her
sad death in 1997, aged 50
